Introducing MBARI: The International Journal of Igbo Studies
OWERRI, Nigeria: The Sungai Corporation and Sungai Nigeria Limited are pleased to announce the establishment of a new peer-reviewed journal of Igbo Studies, to be known as Mbari. The bi-annual publication will be an addition to the Sungai Corporation's list of intellectual and creative works by scholars in African and Black studies. Volume 1, Issue 1 of the journal is expected to be published in the Spring of 2008, while the second issue of the first volume will be released in the Fall of the same year.
Dr. Chima Korieh of the Department of History at Marquette University, Milwaukee Wisconsin, is the Editor of the journal. It is to Korieh that all submissions of articles for consideration are to be made. Dr. Ugorji O. Ugorji, Executive Director of African Writers Endowment, Inc. based in New Jersey, is the Managing Editor of the new journal. Ugorji will manage the publication of accepted articles and papers and the subscription of institutions and individuals to the 8.5 by 11-inch journal, which shall be registered with the US Library Congress as a periodical.

MBARI The International Journal of Igbo Studies
Editorial Policy MBARI, a peer reviewed scholarly journal published twice a year, is the voice of scholars on all aspects of Igbo life, including topics related to the Igbo Diaspora worldwide. Its interdisciplinary scope approach offers readers a critical view of the socioeconomic, political and cultural life of the Igbo people in Africa and the African Diaspora. It emphasizes original research, fresh conceptualization, and new view points on a variety of topics relating to the Igbo people worldwide.
MBARI emphasizes multidisciplinary approach and embraces variety by publishing articles that allow both the specialist and the general reader gain far-reaching insights and a thorough understanding of the Igbo people. Articles that examine aspects of the Igbo language, history, literature, politics, philosophy, folklore, culture, economy, and the role of the Igbo in the broader Igbo Diaspora are accepted.
Submissions accepted for consideration will be evaluated anonymously by at least two external reviewers. All manuscripts submitted for publication consideration must be original work that have not been published previously and is currently not being considered by any other publication outlet.
Format and Style Articles must be written in English, though occasionally permissions are granted to those written in Igbo. Manuscripts should be typed in 12 pts Times New Roman on one side of the paper, double-spaced, with ample margins using MSWord. The latter is preferred for larger files Articles should include a brief abstract, and a short biography with author's full name, title, current affiliation, a brief description of relevant publications, and full postal address/phone/fax/email details of author(s).
Authors are asked to strictly limit their use of capitals, underlining, and bolding. Tables should be kept to a minimum and should be typed on separate sheets and their position indicated by a marginal note in the text. All tables should indicate their source(s) typed below the tables and submitted in grayscale (black and white) in .gif or .jpg format.
Diagrams and photographs or 'Figures' as they are known generally, should be referred to as such in the manuscript and numbered consecutively.
Endnote Style The journal uses the Chicago Manual of Style 15th Edition. Contributors from the social sciences can use The Author-Date style of citation. Those in the humanities, including history should use The Notes-Bibliography style. In either case, authors must be consistent. Use only one endnote per sentence. All endnotes must be inserted automatically as generated by a word processor program such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect. Do not insert endnotes manually.
Articles should be submitted as email attachments to the editorial office.
