Governor Sullivan Chime

COMMUNIQUÉ

New York, NY -JANUARY 18, 2008.  A few hours ago the judicial apparatus, generally referred to as the "Tribunal," set up in Enugu State to determine the fate of the recent gubernatorial election in the state, overturned the election of His Excellency Governor Sullivan Chime.

While this finding may have come to you as a surprise or indeed a sad story, weep not for Governor Chime. The good people of Enugu State will forever remember him as a true patriot.

Udi-Ezeagu USA, an umbrella organization uniting all associations and persons of Udi and Ezeagu descent in the United States, is proud of the great job the Governor has done so far and stands solidly behind him.

Let's review for a moment a few of the remarkable achievements that Governor Chime has delivered within the past seven months since assuming office in May 2007,   which has eternally endeared him to the people of the state.

1.    The Governor conducted an upward review of salaries of civil workers. This single action by the Governor immediately increased the purchasing power of the affected workers, by the sheer increase in their disposable income. This increase also helped to keep the salaries in lock step with the workers counterparts elsewhere in the country and at pace with inflation

2.   He recalled disengaged workers with a view to uplifting the condition of  the forcibly sacked staff and their families to relieve their long-borne burden.

3.  The governor made uncompromising decision to expose ghost workers, check leakages in the accounting process and discourage truancy and fraud among the workers. The governor said his objective, to which we agree, is to plug the loopholes through which unscrupulous and fraudulent worker would normally bleed the treasury.

4.  Road Rehabilitation

The governor has identified 800 roads/streets targeted for resurfacing. Just imagine the possibilities!

Seven contractors engaged by the governor are currently working and executing their contacts within Enugu and Nsukka roads, including

            Dualization of   Zik Avenue

            Rehabilitation of Okpara Avenue

            Rehabilitation of Garden Avenue

            Rehabilitation of Mission Avenue

Rehabilitation of Ngene / UNTH Road

Reconstruction of roads in GRA

Reconstruction of roads in Trans Ekulu

Reconstruction of roads in Independence Layout

Reconstruction of roads in New Haven

Reconstruction of roads in Abakpa Nike

Reconstruction of roads in Emene Areas

Reconstruction of roads in Achara Layout

Reconstruction of roads in Ogui New Layout

Reconstruction of roads in Asata

Reconstruction of roads in Coal Comp

Reconstruction of roads in Uwani

Reconstruction of roads in Awkunanaw

Reconstruction of roads in Garki

Reconstruction of roads in Idaw River

Reconstruction of roads in Lagos Street-Linked Rd

Reconstruction of roads in Iva Valley

Reconstruction of Nsukka roads within Nsukka metropolis

5.   Tenders are in to provide 10,000 units of housing to alleviate the housing shortage in Enugu.

6.  Free Education for our kids from primary to junior secondary school in the state.

7.  Security in Enugu since May 29, 2007

-         The governor has provided vehicles, security and communication gadgets to the police, army and air force to combat crime in the state.  This exercise was hailed by the Inspector General of Police as an exemplary approach worthy of emulation.  We believe that his partnership with official security agencies to enhance their operational efficiencies was deliberate and designed to shun the unconventional means others have used to combat crime.

Now there is visible evidence that this formula is working and needs to be sustained.

8.  Agriculture

We have been told that the Governor has procured 42 tractors specifically designed to jumpstart the Governor's agricultural development initiative contained in his Four-Point Agenda. These tractors will be used for mechanized agriculture.

Additionally, in keeping with this initiative, the Governor has promised that soon a College of Agriculture will be started at Iwollo to enable its graduates enter into or start their own agricultural enterprises.

A 1.6 billion naira contract has been signed by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for the rehabilitation of Ada Rice Irrigation facilities

We have also heard of an influx of investments to the state, not the least of which is the recent memorandum of understanding signed with a Chinese firm to establish cement factory at Amaechi Idodo in Nkanu

Certainly these are the handwork of a practical, no-nonsense leader who has come to do the work of the people. The people of the state understand this and they are going to reward him handsomely for it at the polls.

It is in recognition of these that Udi-Ezeagu USA wholeheartedly supports Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime.

Enugu now bristles with new hope and optimism with reduced violence, acrimony, hatred, and crime.

Go ahead Sullivan.

We're solidly behind you.

And so are the people
