Ndi-Igbo in the Diaspora, under the auspices of Pan Ndi-Igbo Foundation USA, Inc. (PNF USA), reiterate their support for Prof Maurice M. Iwu, INEC Boss

Ndi-Igbo in the Diaspora, under the auspices of Pan Ndi-Igbo Foundation USA, Inc. (PNF USA), reiterate their support for Professor Maurice Maduakolam Iwu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Prof. Iwu has transformed INEC by making lasting structural changes meshed in innovations that would ensure fair, free, and violence-free elections in Nigeria in 2007 and years to come. The leadership Prof Iwu is exhibiting boldness in changing the face of INEC and consequently the political landscape of Nigeria. The changes he has in place would prove that he is the best person to have occupied the position. We commend President Olusegun Obasanjo for his appointment.

The world is watching! Prof Iwu knows that he cannot fail Nigeria. He knows that the people are willing to practice democracy but the corrupt system stands in the way.  As one who is widely revered and recognized by the United States and United Nations, Prof. Iwu cannot fail to conduct credible elections. We have confidence in Prof. Iwu. We advise the political leaders to stop distorting the progress INEC is making. They would be better served to focus on issues that would benefit the masses instead of fighting INEC.

PNF USA, Inc. believes and yearns for a true democracy in Nigeria not tainted with corruption and fraud. We strongly believe that a democratic government is a government of the people by the people. PNF USA carefully examined and analyzed all the 2003 elections reports, including the ones presented by the government, and concluded that INEC under Guobadia robbed the people of their freedom to exercise their constitutional right—the right to freely vote for candidates of their choice. We have no doubt that 2007 elections would be credible. We trust that Prof Iwu would finally elevate the independence of INEC to the level that Nigerians would have total confidence in the Commission.

We hope that the electorates would only vote for credible candidates.

Signed:
