NDM INFO
RELEASE: January 30, 2002
Dear Nigerian Compatriots and Friends of Nigeria: We are all aware of the recent monumental tragedy resulting from explosions at the Ikeja Military Cantonment of Sunday, January 27, 2002. Upwards of 1,000 people might have perished, and thousands more rendered homeless. Extensive damage to limb and property has been reported. The victims yet alive need the help of everybody, including those of us abroad. A National Relief Fund has been set up inside Nigeria, to be coordinated by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The NDM has contacted the Red Cross (Washington Chapter), and we have been instructed about how to establish a relief fund through the relief agency. This will facilitate the donation of those of us abroad. Therefore, kindly send your donations (checks only please) to: American Red Cross Memo: Ikeja-Nigeria (Int'l) Disaster Relief
Fund Telephone: 1-800-HELP-NOW (1-800-435-7669) This is tax-deductible money, at least for donors in the United States. Please consider the request urgent. If you wish, kindly let us know how much you sent by sending an email to NDM@yahoogroups.com. Obviously, we will eventually have to cross-check with the Red Cross to reconcile the tally. A message of condolence or solidarity sent to that address will also be made available in time to the victims through the Governor of Lagos State. Thank you.
