Growing Pains
Okay Achebe
After a while you learn the subtle differences
Between holding hands and chaining souls
And you learn that loving does not mean tenacity
And company does not mean security
You begin to learn that kisses are not promises
You begin to accept your defeats and losses
With your head up and your eyes ahead as your guide
With the grace of an adult and not grief of a child
You learn to build your roads and live for today because
Future plans can crash in mid flight or go off course
After a while you learn that even the sunshine
will hurt
When you expose yourself to it a lot
So plant your own garden and decorate your soul
Do not wait for someone to bring flowers to heal your soul
And you learn that you have the strength and can endure
That you have self-worth and you are mature
You learn and you learn
With every goodbye you learn.
