ODE OF DEATH: The transformation of our lives
The souls of the just are in the hand of God Even though death has destroyed their abode here. We know that no torment shall tough them; They are in peace, like the angels. Beholding God’s presence Because God has chosen them. Oh Death, where is your power? Oh Death, where is your victory? Even thou you claim the lives of the saints Nothing will separate us from the love of God. Your presence is a means to attain our goals. You transform our lives for us to see God. Your voice, Oh Death, is not heard Nor do we see you. You come as a thief in the night To destroy our remembrance here on earth. You came to separate lovers and families. Why do you strike early? We know that we are pilgrims on a journey. Why do you cut our lives short? Why don’t you give us signs? Why do you bring tears to families and lovers? Why do you shorten our happiness in this world? Why do you shake the foundation of our lives? Oh Death, you are not the shepherd of our lives. You are only a blind guide. But we know the gate to the Shepherd. Our brother and friend has gained victory and freedom Through the blood of Jesus Christ Who is the God Shepherd who elected him. Oh Death, we the living are asking you: "Where is your power and where is your sting?" Geoffrey, our brother, is on the journey To see our God; we shall one day see him And our ancestors in God’s Kingdom. Adieu, rest in God’s abode; Emesie, anyi ga-afu!
