MY DREAM

~ Tochi

I dreamt of a tall iroko tree bending to caress my face
         I gloried in the light of the sun;
I climbed her, thinking she was all mine till I saw where eagles had laid bare the topmost branches
So I wept.
I thought to nurse this tree, to cuddle this tree, to lavish love on this tree
But I heard a voice crying out: "It is Sin!"
Multiheaded devils danced around the tree and I, shrieking horrendously
Therefore, I chose to be a sinner.
In my dream, I stepped into this great iroko tree and found rot within
         So much for my efforts.
I tried to run away, but greatly succeeded in entangling myself in the intricate network of branches above
My head downward toward the earth
So I wept still.
