MY FATHER MY BEST FRIEND
In our lives we take it for granted that our parents are supposed to take care of us. However, they are not obligated to do everything for us. In our lives we take it for granted that our parents are supposed to live forever. However, they are not immortal. All that they have to do is to show us the way and we do the rest. All we have to do is enjoy the period that they are with us. They are supposed to be our heroes. They are supposed to be our role models. They are supposed to be our initiators to life. They are supposed to be our first love in life. My father, OMENUKWA ONYEMAECHI, was all of these and more! They are supposed to be our benefactors. They are supposed to be our guides. They are supposed to be our guardians. They are supposed to be our leaders. My father, OMENUKWA ONYEMAECHI, was all of these and more! They are supposed to be our teachers. They are supposed to be our protectors. They are supposed to be our responsibility when they age. They are supposed to be our thousand points of light. My father, OMENUKWA ONYEMAECHI, was all of these and more! Have we ever stopped to say, "THANK YOU" to them? Have we ever stopped to say, "I LOVE YOU" to them. Have we ever stopped to ask them, "ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" Have we ever stopped to ask them, "WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU?" I hope that my father, OMENUKWA ONYEMAECHI, could attest to it that I did. Have we ever stopped to give them a hug? Have we ever stopped to smile at them? Have we ever stopped to cry for joy for their being there for you at all times? Have we ever stopped to ponder about how they survived all these years? I hope that my father, OMENUKWA ONYEMAECHI, could attest to it that I did. When I took my first breath, you were there. When I took my first crawl, you were there. When I took my first walk, you were there. When I took my first steps in life, you were there. You were my father and my best friend! When I took my first test in life, you were there. When I failed my first examination, you were there to console me. When I took my first college degree, your were at my graduation. When I took my first job, you gave it to me. You were my father and my best friend! You taught me how to be a HUMAN BEING. You taught me how to be A MAN. You taught me how to be honest with your "HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY POEM." You taught me how to be humble with our last name, ONYEMAECHI, as the yardstick. You were my father and my best friend! You taught me how to pray. You taught me how to be both a good Igbo man and a good Nigerian. You taught me about life in general. You taught me about the essence of education. You were my father and my best friend! You gave me life, hope, liberty, and happiness. You were God’s representative in my life. You were a pacesetter in our hometown, Isiekenesi. You were the BEST FATHER anyone could have asked for. Primus Inter pares! Anukporo nku na-eju onu! Nwoke e ji-aga ogwu! Oke Osisi no n'ohia! Akaraaka uwa! Papa-bekee, ije oma! Ba oba gunwa sun re O! Chief OMENUKWA ONYEMAECHI Akaraaka of Isiekenesi. Rest In Perfect Peace… AMEN!
